About Craig: community development experience

Developing community: a special point of view
Since 1992, Craig has helped 3 intentional communities form and thrive. A current project is early planning for new development on one. He also supported many others while working with Coho/US, the FIC, and NICA.

Intentional Community development
  • Songaia Cohousing Community: 1992-2000 (development teams), 2000 - 2010 (resident)
I served on many different teams during Songaia's development. My most significant experiences involved the "business" of developing the real estate and creating a community... making agreements, dealing with money, presenting the community to the world as we sought new members and made arrangements with the many stakeholders.
  • New Earth Song: 2006 (founder), 2007 (acquisition), 2006-2008 (project manager)
In 2006 we started forming a new sister community that would develop property adjoining Songaia. I served as the project manager in forming the group and acquiring an adjoining property. I passed the managerial baton to an architect that has designed the homes that will be built. Since Songaia never has homes for sale, we send most inquiries to members of the New Earth Song.
  • Life Song Commons (website by youngster) 2009-2010 (acquisition), 2010-present (resident)
I built a team of five Songaia families who were interested in forming another "node" of adult community housing to the immediate South of Songaia. Two of the families have now sold their Songaia homes and live in a very large house on the property. The owners plan to create space that's optimized for older adults.
